JOHN DEAM SANDER
94, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 9, 2018.
John was born in Los Angeles, California to the late Francis M. and Leota L. (Deam) Sander. He was
preceded in death by his wife of sixty-four years, Elizabeth M. (Roeder) Sander. He is survived by one
son and daughter-in-law, Mark D. and Betty (Hufford) Sander of Indianapolis, one daughter, Carol S.
(Sander) Martin of St. Louis, Missouri, two step-grandchildren, four step-grandsons, five nieces and
nephews, and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
John graduated from Evansville Central High School in 1940 and attended Evansville College. He served
in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. After the war, he worked at International Harvester
Corporation in Evansville for ten years and then nearly thirty years at Motors Insurance Corporation (a
division of General Motors) until his retirement in 1985.
John was a member of Emanual Lutheran Church and then a charter member and the first
congregational president of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Evansville. Since relocating to
Indianapolis in 1967, he has been a member of Pleasant View Lutheran Church.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 3, 2018, at Pleasant View Lutheran Church,
Indianapolis, immediately followed by a celebration of his life in the Church Fellowship Hall. A private
interment will take place in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be
made to Indy Honor Flight, PO Box 10, Plainfield, IN 46168 (www.indyhonorflight.org) or a charity of
your choice.
